Objectives

The main goal of the "Paint POKaZ" project was to empower young people for advocacy and activist action through creative expression. This goal built on the success of a previous project, "Paint Karlovac" (OK), which effectively engaged young people, the local community, and partner organizations in collaborative, creative activities. By implementing "Paint POKaZ," we aimed to extend this model to new locations—Pula, Osijek, Zadar, and their surrounding areas—focusing on using public spaces selected by the youth as platforms for expression and dialogue. The project sought to achieve several key objectives. Firstly, the project aimed to empower young people by providing them with tools and opportunities to express their views creatively and advocate for issues important to them. Through artistic interventions in public spaces, participants could voice their concerns and ideas visibly and impactfully within their communities. Another specific objective was to deepen young people's understanding of democracy, the rule of law, mental health, and environmental sustainability. These topics were identified as particularly important to the youth through a survey conducted for this project and broader research on youth interests across Europe. By focusing on these areas, the project aimed to cultivate a generation of young people who were well-informed and engaged in critical social issues. The third one of the primary objectives was to create public spaces where young people felt a sense of ownership. The goal was to transform these spaces into environments that were not just for the community but shaped by it, particularly by its younger members. This sense of ownership was crucial for motivating young people to participate actively in societal activities and feel connected to their local environment. Among that, the project also sought to enhance the relationship between young people and the broader community. By using public spaces for creative expression and dialogue, it encouraged stronger connections between youth, their peers, and other community members, including decision-makers. This objective aligned with the broader goal of sensitizing the public to issues important to young people and encouraging greater youth participation in community development. Another key objective was to raise awareness within the local community about the importance of active youth participation. By demonstrating the positive impact that young people could have when engaged and given the space to express themselves, the project aimed to challenge the common misconception that young people were apathetic and uninterested in societal issues. The project also aimed to increase the visibility and impact of the participating organizations on both local and national levels. By forming new partnerships and continuing to collaborate with similar initiatives across Croatia, the project sought to ensure that youth-related issues were addressed with the direct involvement of young people. This objective also included introducing innovative practices into the regular work of partner organizations and promoting national mobility among youth. In summary, the "Paint POKaZ" project built on a proven model of youth engagement, extended its reach to new communities, and focused on empowering young people through creative expression. The project’s objectives revolved around deepening young people’s knowledge of critical societal issues, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging in public spaces, strengthening community connections, encouraging active participation, and enhancing the visibility and collaboration of the organizations involved. Ultimately, the project sought to create tangible, visible changes in local communities that reflected the interests and voices of young people, ensuring that their contributions were recognized and valued.
