The main reason for applying for our DiscoverEU project was the parents of young people with disabilities who repeatedly contacted the leaders of our association with questions about the participation of their children in the implementation of our local and international activities. During the past three years, we managed to actively include some of them in our local activities, which we were particularly proud of, but there was also a desire to include participants with significant difficulties in international activities as well. Considering the format made possible by DiscoverEU, we decided to apply for a project specifically for these participants. What we were guided by was their needs. Considering the large groups we work with, not all young people were able to participate due to certain challenges they face, which was very good through DiscoverEU because we were able to lead a small group of participants. Also, they needed a more customized program that would follow and respect their needs, and that's how we planned all the activities. Young people with difficulties, whom we ultimately included in the project, did not have the opportunity to travel often, and in some cases never, or to participate in activities outside the country due to various reasons, and with this project we wanted to provide them with the opportunity to learn at all levels that happens during the trip. In addition, the itinerary was additionally adapted to them, and they themselves participated from the very beginning in all the plans, which resulted in the itinerary being fully adapted to their wishes, possibilities and needs. The primary goal of the implementation of this project was to provide young people with fewer opportunities, including those with disabilities, social difficulties, significantly limited financial resources or who live in rural areas - the opportunity to participate in the DiscoverEU program on an equal basis with their peers. The goal was also to involve young people who have not had the opportunity to participate in projects so far and to develop their competences and learn about Europe in this way. The goals of our project included: 1. Inclusivity: To create an inclusive environment where young people from diverse backgrounds facing diverse challenges can actively participate in a life-changing travel experience. 2. Empowerment: To empower young participants to overcome social, economic and geographical barriers, thereby strengthening their self-esteem, independence and life skills. 3. Cultural understanding: Foster cultural understanding and openness among participants by exposing them to different cultures and communities across Europe. 4. Advocacy: Enable participants to represent themselves, their experiences, raise awareness of the challenges they face and cooperate with decision makers by advocating their needs, raising their awareness of the real impact that certain activities, measures and programs have on the lives of young people with difficulties.
