Objectives

The implementation of the project aimed to modernize the vocational teaching of the electrical engineering department by creating a practicum (collection of exercises) on the topic of photovoltaic systems that will be used in teaching. It was important that the exercises were based on practical work and the modular principle - that they connect different levels of knowledge and skills and different vocational subjects. This results in higher quality vocational education for students and easier adoption of learning outcomes. The aim was to provide teachers with professional training, exchange of good practice and monitoring of modern trends in the profession, and institutions to establish various partner collaborations, strengthen management skills and better quality vocational education.

Background

There are several needs that partner schools have identified in their institutions. Primarily, it is the modernization of electrical engineering teaching. The Croatian national curriculum for this profession dates back to 1996, while the Slovenian one is more modern, from 2018. The partners recognized the importance of acquiring vocational skills of students based on practical work in accordance with the needs of the labor market. Therefore, it was necessary to empower vocational teachers to create teaching content that will enable students to acquire specific vocational knowledge and skills. Teachers should be able to see good examples of practice in school and in the real sector in order to implement knowledge in their work. The topic of renewable energy sources is part of the existing curricula and an important social topic, so the need to promote awareness of sustainability and energy efficiency was imposed. One of the schools’imperatives is to implement an internationalization strategy in order to increase the attractiveness of vocational education.
