By implementing this project, we aimed to achieve several key objectives: To contribute to the digitalization of the vocational training system in arboriculture and urban forestry through the establishment of a virtual certification center. To enhance the quality of work of the involved organizations and institutions by developing a certification program in arboriculture, addressing common needs in the forestry sector in Southeast Europe. To adapt the existing vocational training programs for the profession of European Tree Worker for Southeast Europe, ensuring a long-term positive impact on organizations involved in training in this field. To improve the educational system in urban forestry and arboriculture through the development of a unified European publication and supplementary digital tools. To raise awareness among local authorities and other stakeholders about the need to promote ecological sustainability in line with EU policies and strategic green space planning. To strengthen the international engagement of organizations through the exchange of good practices and improve their work with end users.
We applied for this project to address several key needs within the arboriculture and urban forestry sector, particularly in Southeast Europe. Currently, there is a significant lack of available, standardized training and certification for professionals in this field. While many countries in Western and Central Europe have established certification centers for European Tree Worker certificates, such centers do not exist in Southeast Europe. Additionally, the lack of digital learning platforms tailored to arboriculture further limits access to quality education. With this project, we aimed to fill these gaps by creating a digital learning platform, a non-formal curriculum for the education of European Tree Workers, and establishing a certification center in Croatia. Through this, we will promote professional development, sustainability, and the adoption of European standards in urban forestry.
