Objectives

One of the most important targets of our project was to support the colleagues’ regeneration in their profession. We believe that all the digital metodological development, all the environmentally conscious approach and sustainability and all the preservence of the mental healths for teachers are important segments of education not only in our school or country. We wanted our colleagues to get to know these challenges and their possible solutions in other countries, to share their experience and learn new strategies and metodology. Since we teach English from a very young age, we strongly beleive in playful, varied and continuously renewing metodology. In the project we also wanted to get a deeper view and learn about the civilization of English speaking countries. Planning long term, we would like to develop a well-functioning Science curriculum in which we emphasise the environmental education and sustainability. Together with advanced level language knowledge and extensive digital background it will prepare our students to face the challenges of the future.

Background

We are a Hungarian-English bilingual primary school in the city centre. Our main activity is teaching the English language at a high level from 1st to 8th grades. Our teachers regularly take part in courses abroad in order to gain experience, to practice the language and to increase their knowledge. Being an eco-school we find the environmentally conscious education particularly important. Science is taught in English language starting from the 3rd grade. However, we would like to reform the curriculum in English language now. We plan to develop our own curriculum, which is in sync with the students’ experience, interest and language skills regarding their age. Nevertheless, this curriculum is not only based on the students’ language level, but it can also contribute to its improvement. Due to several technical developments in our school the digital culture as a subject is given a more significant role. Even at the lower grades robotics, development activities, digital curriculum and platforms are involved in the daily work. Unfortunately the shortage and general under-motivation of teachers also affect our institute. We aim to do our best in order that our colleagues could avoid burn-out and they could keep their mental health.
