Various studies have shown that dietary changes can impact the environment. In Europe, six out of seven major risk factors for early death—such as high blood pressure, cholesterol levels, body mass index, insufficient fruit consumption, obesity, and being overweight—are on the rise. Consequently, the EU Youth Strategy is designed to enhance the health and well-being of young people. According to the European Commission's research division, Sustainable Healthy Diets improve all facets of health and well-being, place minimal strain on the environment, and are both accessible and cost-effective. This initiative emerged from local volunteers of the hosting organization. They had been following quick healthy cooking tutorials on TikTok and Instagram and were discussing the availability of nutritious food in their meetings. They considered how to make traditional dishes healthier (by reducing sugar and oil) and exploring vegetarian or vegan versions (such as vegan fish soup or goulash) while keeping them affordable. With support from Ádám, an experienced youth leader, the concept evolved into a project. This project was designed to help volunteers discover, share, and try healthy, affordable cultural foods from Hungary and Slovakia. The youth exchange aimed to offer other young people the chance to engage in this sustainable initiative and explore different cultures through cooking. Thanks to the project, participants have now the ability to prepare various dishes while avoiding food and packaging waste. The partner organisations aimed to fight against climate change through cooking. The applicant wanted to achieve several aims: to teach young people about different healthy diets and cooking; to give them the skills to prepare healthy food and protect environment in the same time; to show young people the need for change and help the environment and become more independent; to involve young people in the awareness campaign toward adult people or people from other cultures. The objectives of the project were to develop young people’s ability and knowledge, foster their creativity in healthy gastronomy; to improve cooking skills and develop young people’s awareness about the consequences of their diets. It was important to increase the awareness of civil society and promote European identity by getting to know more about different cultures
