Objectives

The aim of the project was to showcase the diversity of environmental volunteering and to help the young people involved to find an activity that fits their own personality and thus become open to social responsibility. It was important for us to achieve this in a practical way, involving young people in concrete volunteering activities, beyond theoretical knowledge and joint discussions. Our aim was to get young people to do voluntary work during the project, to evaluate it and to adapt it to their own country. A key aim was to structure the programmes in such a way that the young people could understand the issues in an international context. We therefore emphasised the importance of presenting the same volunteering or environmental issue in their own country and then involving the other participating countries, thus opening up the issues for a broader, collective discussion. The programme was led by experienced professionals who, with their experience as trainers, were able to bring the practical elements and the experience of voluntary action to a knowledge level for young people. The young people also made their own plans for their future volunteering opportunities and goals. Overall, the programme was built around providing experiences that participants could immediately incorporate into their country, their community and their own future plans. The longer-term aim of the project was to promote the experience in as many forums and as widely as possible. The professional contacts established will be further developed and the practical approach to volunteering and environmental protection will be continued in other youth programmes.
