Objectives

During the five-day youth exchange, 25 Hungarian-speaking Roma and non-Roma youth from across the borders were given the opportunity to participate in a European mobility project, to which their access is limited due to the low capacity of local organizations, the lack of foreign language skills, and the social and geographical isolation of Roma communities. . The main goal of the project was to give Roma and non-Roma young people the opportunity to participate in an international mobility project (traveling abroad, building relationships with young people of other nationalities). We were primarily looking for young people and organizations who do not, or only very rarely, participate in international projects, due to the lack of language skills and fears arising from inexperience. During the project, we also wanted to expand the capacities of the local organizations working with them. As a target group, we defined mainly young Roma people who live near the border and speak Hungarian (non-Roma young people are not excluded), since they have even fewer opportunities to participate in mobility programs without knowledge of foreign languages, especially English. Since these young people are rarely and rarely allowed by their parents to go on longer trips abroad due to their exclusion and family patterns, the local embeddedness of the partner organizations was also very important. The specific goals of the youth exchange were as follows: Providing mobility opportunities for Hungarian-speaking Roma and non-Roma youth across the border who do not speak a foreign language To strengthen their European identity Strengthening the Roma identity as a European identity Getting to know the Roma cultures of other countries, strengthening the sense of community Getting to know and sharing the Hungarian-Roma cultures of the Carpathian Basin (customs, food, music, experiences, history) Dialogue between Roma and non-Roma youth Breaking down the prejudices of non-Roma youth, strengthening common values
