Objectives

The Great Storyteller youth exchange programme has designed a 10-day international exchange programme for young people from Romania and Hungary, using different drama pedagogical methods, improvisation games and the world of fairy tales. At the end of the exchange, the young people demonstrated xenophobia and acceptance of each other through the language of art by performing a play. Drama pedagogy helped all the participants to develop their skills and to acquire new knowledge and skills. The two organisations were implemented by DEMKI N. KFT i.e. Debrecen Youth House and Asociata Pentru Tinerii si Sdutentidin Partium between 26.07.2022 and 05.08.2022. The exchange took place in the Youth House in the city centre, which is a bright spot in the life of Debrecen. The house offers cultural and recreational programmes and services primarily for young people. The 32 young people (16-16) who took part in the international exchange were young people who had never been abroad or on an international youth programme. A large percentage of the participants came from disadvantaged small towns and socially deprived areas The youth exchange combined non-formal education methods with drama pedagogical methods. These two different methods provided the opportunity for the young people to develop. Art as a means of self-expression was combined with dramatic-stage exercises (body language, stage presence, movement) to help young people express themselves, share their thoughts and experiences and develop. The objectives of the exchange programme included fostering young people's acceptance of each other, learning about and accepting each other's cultures, promoting tolerance and respect, recognising and cherishing our cultural values and increasing their activity in local communities, thus helping them to become active citizens. Youth Exchanges will have a great impact on their participants, their personal competence-based development will have an impact on their local community as well as on their organisation. In addition to developing their individual skills, they will develop their European values and contribute to the development of European values among the participants, the partner organisation and their local communities. It encouraged participants to learn the core values of European society and to take an active part in the life of their local communities. Another aim was to share the Erasmus+ experience with them and to give them the opportunity to take part in an international of an international community. In addition, the organisations involved have established a solid basis for good cooperation and gained experience in many areas, and the city of Debrecen has been able to learn about what Erasmus+ means. It was a good opportunity for the organisations to develop closer cooperation through joint projects.
