Objectives

The main goal of implementing this project was to raise awareness regarding the situation about sexual education among the young EU members, considering the fact that it varies from state to state. We also wanted to emphasize the importance of sexual education in life, and how the quality sexual education may help European society, as it leads to lower number of STI and STD cases. By doing this project, we showed that the term “sexuality” shall not be the taboo, among youngsters and generally in our societies. Our project has met the Erasmus+ and Youth Exchange objectives: 1. Promotion of the efficient sexuality education among youngsters: Countries with better and more efficient sex education have smaller rates of early school leavers (ESLs), have smaller numbers of STIs and STDs, as well as smaller number of early and unwanted pregnancies. We have made sure that participants understood these as well. 2. Acceptance of sexual diversity: We have invited participants with different backgrounds, with the whole spectrum of sexuality and gender identities. Participants who were not part of sexual or/and gender minorities have changed their prospective towards the difference, and level of acceptance of sexual diversity has really changed throughout the project. We have observed how some of the participants who came with more traditional values and who had clearly transphobic and homophobic statements. We made sure that they understand and value the human rights, among them LGBT rights as well. There were also open gender-free, gender-binary, lesbian, gay and bisexual participants, and after they have met each other more closely, it became widely accepted within the whole group. 3. Tolerance and solidarity with the high risk group: Besides sexual and/or gender minorities, there were participants from the Roma community, as well as from different religious backgrounds. Hungarian team has presented the Roma values and traditions connected to sexual life. By having them together for 10 days, acceptance and mutual understanding has also been changing positively throughout the project. 4. Fighting against prejudices, stereotypes, stigmatization, sexism: The whole project was aiming at reducing prejudices, stereotypes, stigmatization and sexism. By this project, we wanted to increase participants' level of knowledge and awareness regarding the issue of the sexual education and their own sexuality acceptance. By participation in this project, we wanted to help the young people to increase their level of knowledge and awareness regrading the healthy and safe sexual life topic. After the first part of the youth exchange, which was rather introduction and educational, there was the time when participants showed off what did they learn about the topic, and one day traveled to Gyöngyös where they organized four different workshops for 10-15 students of Afterschool Center HatásPont Tanoda. Students were divided in two gender groups, as they have very strong cultural identity in which they are not comfortable talking about sex, sexual organs and similar. We ensured that the transferred information is in line with all the legislation and school curriculum. The direct translation from English to Hungarian was offered by the Tanoda teachers, who could also filter the information in specific cases, but it was not needed at the end as the workshops were prepared very well and very detailed. Thanks to all the kno wledge and information acquired during the workshop part, the project aimed to learn the participants to how to design and implement an activity with the same goal, but using the non-formal methods and knowledge they have. During the youth exchange, participants have organized and carried out an activity in after-school center HatásPont Tanoda Gyöngyös. The activity had more than 15 local participants who could acquire new information, which was specially designed for them based on their age and background. This aimed at raising awareness of young students regarding personal hygiene, sexual and reproductive organs, contraception and STDs. In the same time, it helped our participants' to understand the work with group of young students, which was necessary for planning the follow up activities. Besides that, our project helped participants to better understand situation about sexual education and sexual minorities in the countries from where they come from, as well as Hungary as a host country.
