Objectives

The main reason why we wanted to carry out this project was the common concern about the mental health issues arised more intensely during the pandemic. Worldwide we were and still are assisting to a parallel silent pandemic, called demotivation, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, eating disorder, hitting the population and mainly youth. The reports from WHO and Unicef showed how worldwide youth mental health is at risk: statistics said that 27% of the youth interviewed, reported feeling anxiety and 15% depression; 46% report having less motivation to do activities they usually enjoyed. 36% feel less motivated to do regular chores. Nowadays youth are paying the highest price; for this reason we had felt the need to provide tools for self-care, for youth workers and youth, to build what is missing: resilience to unexpected situations, self-awareness and capacity of imagining a better future. With our partners we wanted to provide an answer to this situation, and we believed that our project contained tools and methods able to reinforce and empower youth workers in their support work with young people. So the project met a double need: 1. Need to reinforce the Youth workers personal and professional competences with new methods tailored on the discover of self-care and on the empowerment of inner competences and of new tools and methods; 2. Needs to reinforce and support, through this path, youth (indirect beneficiaries) facing the recent psychological diseases connected with the lacks of emotional awareness, expression, contact and emotional management. The project idea was a unique path of 2 Training Courses for Youth workers on art as a form of self-knowledge through self-expression and the following discover of inner strenght and of skills as resilience, emotional competences and flexibility. In the first TC we used paths of artistic creation (found poetry, caviardage photovoice, landart, eye-colletion...) as introspective tools together with tools like active listening, and inspirational resilience examples taken form the history of art, from the life of painters, writers and other artists. In the second TC we worked on developing digital stories with the method of Digital Story telling. It is a method that helps us to focus on ourselves and on our own story. It assists us to phrase our story, to dramatise it, illustrate it with photographs and to tell it to others. It provided the opportunity for the participants to get to know themselves and each other better and enhances creativity and self-expression. Between the 2 trainings we had foreseen a local workshop in each country held by the participants to put in practice the gained tools and methods. The quality of the learning was guaranteed by the presence of two different experienced Trainers in each TC, according to their expertise. In the first Training 2 trainers form Agrado and Check-in with expertise on art and psychological tool and methods; in the second training two expert trainers from Anthropolis. OBJECTIVES 1. Empower Youth workers personal and professional competences providing them with art and creativity approaches and methods on the topic of self-awareness and emotional management, for self-care and for supporting young people. 2. Enrich the participants toolbox providing concrete methods based on creativity and art (Found poetry, caviardage, photovoice…) to facilitate the inclusion, the support and the open dialogue with youth facing temporary vulnerabilities, and to use with them; 3. Motivate the youth workers to embrace their creativity and to use it as a transformative power for their professional and personal lives, empowering their introspective capacities and identifying their inner strengths even to copy with unexpected and challenging situations; 4. Improve youth work quality providing the participants with space to reflect on their role of emotional youth support, and constructively reflect upon their own experiences, on their work and role; 5. Strengthen participants’ and organisations’ competences and capabilities in youth work with international dimensions and cooperation; 6. Enhance non-formal education methods, youth work quality and the recognition of NFE learning (output production: Video of the project, Digital stories of the participants, data on art and youthwork in the 7 countries).
