The main aim of the project is to inspire, sensitise and engage 14+ age group towards volunteering and social participation through gamification. To this end, the main objective was to develop a cooperative board game, complemented by a methodological recommendation for users, in order to accompany the educational type of board game with a process of awareness raising and processing. The non-formal learning tool focuses on voluntary opportunities and social challenges to increase awareness and motivation. The short-term objective of the project was achieved: the board game was developed and distributed to youth workers, civic leaders, volunteer centres, teachers working in community service in schools, who introduced and used the game for their own young target groups. The online methodological recommendations helped them to process the observations, insights, questions and lessons learned from the educational game among young people. The online version of the created board game in English and Hungarian is available free of charge.
Both partner organisations are active in the promotion and organisation of volunteering, and we promote volunteering opportunities through information sessions in secondary schools. In both countries, there was a need to use non-formal methods to bring students closer to the need for their altruistic attitude and commitment to social issues, rather than introducing the characteristics and opportunities of volunteering in a presentation. Partner organisations aim to involve volunteers to serve social issues, so inspiring and engaging young people is essential. The process of engagement always starts at young becoming sensitive people to their own environment, recognising that they can do something for the people around them or for the natural environment. Gamification tools are a good way of shaping attitudes in young people's education, and can have an emotional impact. The cooperation between the two countries has resulted a more colourful board game with a European perspective, based on European values.
