We aim to improve teachers' competences in teaching about Europe, democratic culture, human rights and active citizenship. We aim to improve students' knowledge about Europe, European values & citizenship education. We wish to create opportunities for students to engage with peers in democratic processes and intercultural exchanges at national & international levels. We want our students to feel involved, included and actively engaged in discussions about their priorities for the future of Europe. We wish to raise awareness among young people of current trends that threaten peace, democracy & the cohesion of Europe. We aim to focus on the importance of human rights education and engage students in activities to enhance their knowledge of international justice and the need to safeguard human rights. We wish to take students to Netherlands to collaborate with Dutch peers on activities related to defending European values, international justice and human rights. We wish to raise awareness about EU migration policy. We wish to see more collaboration between staff & students with peers across Europe. We will seek to embed need for improved competences in languages & intercultural encounters in all project activities
Our organisation is an ETB secondary school in Ireland. Our students are aged 12-18. The school is located 25km from Dublin and our town is home to a thriving and growing university. We have a very high transfer of our student cohort to third level education. Eurobarometer studies consistently show that most European citizens feel they know too little about the EU and how it affects their lives. We wish to address this lack of knowledge among our student cohort. In order to achieve this goal we need to improve teachers' competence to teach about Europe. European integration is being increasingly threatened by violent extremism, polarisation, disinformation and lack of trust in democratic processes. To protect this precious & unique peace project we need to increase young people's understanding and appreciation of democracy, human rights & intercultural dialogue. Our teachers require professional development to equip them with the expertise to teach key competences for democratic culture. We have much to learn from and share with colleagues across Europe. With this project we aim to expand our international partnerships and create channels for knowledge sharing, exchange of good practices & innovative pedagogies.
