Many of our students have not been afforded the opportunity to immerse in a different culture. Through this project. we wanted our students to experience the differences and similarities between our setting and our partner school. We have a well developed extra-curricular programme in our school and our students would learn a lot from experiencing the sports and cultural activities prominent in another school community, learning about the differences while also appreciating the similarities which exist in Irish and French culture.
We are a co-educational, multi-denominational school with over 600 students. We have DEIS status which means that we ensure equality of education for all students regardless of socio-economic background. The focus of our project was to promote French as a Modern Foreign Language in our school and to encourage students to continue in their study of French through the opportunity to use it in a real life situation.
