Many young people some of whom are at risk of not reaching their full potential due to a variety of factors including but not limited to economic disadvantage, marginalization, rural isolation, mental health concerns, disability etc. living in rural areas, aspire to meet with peer groupings on both an individual basis and in a group setting to experience the supports and opportunities available in other countries. They are interested in getting an understanding of how obstacles and barriers impeding development of young people with few opportunities and with disabilities have been overcome across Europe. They are also interested in learning from advancements and new ways of doing things and steering through what can often be a very difficult and challenging transitional time in young peoples’ lives. Through this project they would have an opportunity to see the world from outside of their community “bubble” and the opportunity to use the new experiences to grow as a person with knowledge from and exposure to other cultures. They could independently experience and gather new information, get an inside into different culture, learn new things, experience advancements in areas where there is a deficit in Ireland, Greece & Spain and make connections which otherwise could not happen. This Erasmus + project would allow the participating young people to get a sense of how each individual in each country have specific cultural and experiential differences yet also have many similarities. They face similar difficulties gaining employment and even work placements. This project would facilitate an understanding of how to concentrate on ways to combat unemployment, underemployment and low training opportunities. The opportunity for this particular cohort of young people is that it would facilitate the fostering of intercultural dialogue, experiential and intercultural learning and the feeling of being European. strengthen European values and breaking down prejudices and stereotypes; raise awareness about socially relevant topics and thus stimulate engagement in society and active participation
