WSTCYS runs the Youth council of Waterford (Comhairle na nOg) This project is an ongoing participation project supported by our local county council. The initiative involves young people to identify issues affecting them in their county and develops projects to meet those needs. The project is limited to 12-18year old and once the young person reaches 18 they can no longer take part in the project.WSTCYS wanted to begin this project to create a Pathway for the young people to engage in further European Programmes to enhance their cultural awareness and skillset for future employment and education possibilities. The Youth Council is very active in environmental projects and this project inspired young people to embrace sustainable travel. The aim of this project was to continue engagement with vulnerable young people and ensure they are aware and availed of all the opportunities open to them through Erasmus+ Two young people travelled solo through Europe in 2023. This cohort of young people changed from the original application as the original young people had a change in circumstance and could no longer travel. The two young people that travelled engaged in a planning process with their Youth Worker to plan their travel route, work out their budget and discuss any issues that may arise. This project increases their autonomy and independent life skills through learned and lived experience. These young people also used the French they learned throughout their secondary school cycle. The objective was to support them to avail of this opportunitiy as this would not have been an option for them to travel without this project. Shy Project Community Youth Project works with young people aged 10-24years of age. This project worked with four young women who finished their education and transitioned to adulthood.
