Objectives

The PROJECT OBJECTIVES were as follows; 1) Give young people an opportunity to travel 2)Young people will be exposed to and experience new cultures 3)Meet new people and connect with EU peers 4) Support young people to get out of their comfort zone and think independently. We strongly believe the young people we work with are full of potential, creativity and inspiration. As a youth service we are committed to nurturing their talents and potential where we can, by providing opportunities for growth and development. Unfortunately young people are faced with many barriers, limited beliefs of themselves are imposed on them because of the communities they come from and the society we live in. Anti social behaviour and criminality is normalised, including racism, discrimination and violence. This project was a perfect opportunity to provide a positive cultural experience for young people, create intercultural dialogue that can transcend to more respect and solidarity among young people. Young people have visited 4 different countries in Europe, travelled by train through Europe and embrace local communities. Me, You & the EU was a project designed to provide young people with an opportunity to travel, develop life skills, experience new and different cultures and open their minds to life outside their community. The objectives of this project were primarily to enhance the personal, social, cultural and civic competencies of the participants. Young people were exposed to ways of living they are not use to and they gained the opportunity to demonstrate independence, by travelling for two weeks across Europe visiting 5 different countries, observing and embracing the culture of each city/town they stopped off in. The implementation of this project has challenged stereotypes and assumptions participants had of others and some of which they believed about themselves and their community and we know this from their feedback and it will be demonstrated further down below.
