The project implementation focused on three primary objectives: 1. To promote astronomy education in schools through game-based learning approaches, specifically utilising Minecraft as an innovative educational platform. 2. To improve the overall quality of STEAM education by creating engaging, interactive learning experiences that make complex astronomical concepts more accessible and understandable for primary school students. 3. To enhance teachers' digital competencies, enabling them to utilise modern educational technologies in their teaching practice effectively. These objectives were to be achieved through two main deliverables: 1. Development of a comprehensive teacher's guide/manual for introducing astronomy concepts 2. Creation of a custom Minecraft game environment designed to provide hands-on learning experiences for challenging astronomical concepts The project aimed to transform traditional astronomy education by creating an immersive, interactive learning environment that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding.
We applied for our AstronoMine project to address fundamental limitations in current astronomy education practices. Traditional teaching methods focus primarily on basic content knowledge, failing to facilitate deeper understanding of complex astronomical concepts. AstronoMine addressed three critical needs: 1. Modernising astronomy education through innovative game-based learning 2. Improving STEAM education quality through practical engagement 3. Developing teachers' digital competencies By utilising Minecraft's popularity and adaptability, we created an educational solution that transforms abstract astronomical concepts into tangible learning experiences. The project responds to the need for more engaging, interactive approaches to astronomy education at the primary school level, while simultaneously supporting STEAM skill development. Through the development of three specialised Minecraft worlds and a comprehensive teacher manual, the AstronoMine provides comprehensive tools to address these educational gaps, ensuring more effective and engaging astronomy instruction in schools.
