Internationalisation is a strategic priority for University College Cork (UCC) and holds a high status within the institution's academic planning and development. The Erasmus+ programme, particularly its provision of student mobility opportunities, remains a core activity at UCC. Recognising the importance of international experiences in preparing students for the global workforce, UCC has committed to leveraging Erasmus+ as a key vehicle for student and staff development. By implementing the Erasmus+ project, UCC aimed to achieve the following objectives: 1. Enhance Global-Mindedness and Employability: The programme sought to equip students with greater global-mindedness, an enhanced awareness of their European identity, and improved foreign language skills. These attributes were identified as critical in preparing students for the demands of the international job market, ensuring they return with enhanced employability compared to their peers who have not participated in the programme. 2. Promote Intercultural Awareness and Understanding: The project aimed to foster intercultural awareness and mutual understanding among participants from diverse backgrounds, supporting European cooperation and the exchange of ideas. This goal aligns with the core values of Erasmus+, helping students and staff to engage more deeply with the culture, politics, and society of their host countries. 3. Support Staff Development and Knowledge Exchange: UCC placed a strong emphasis on staff exchanges, enabling teaching staff to share expertise with academic counterparts across partner institutions. The programme also supported administrative staff by providing opportunities for professional development through collaboration with European counterparts, promoting the exchange of ideas and best practices. 4. Ensure Inclusivity and Equal Opportunities: Inclusivity was a key priority, with UCC striving to provide opportunities for participants from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds. The project sought to ensure equal access to learning and development experiences, reinforcing UCC's commitment to educational equality. 5. Strengthen Strategic Partnerships: Another important objective was to strengthen and expand UCC’s partnerships with institutions across Europe. By fostering long-lasting networks, the Erasmus+ project aimed to support future collaboration, facilitating ongoing knowledge exchange and innovation. In summary, the Erasmus+ project at UCC aimed to enhance personal development, educational progress, and intercultural exchange. It also sought to promote innovation, cooperation, and strategic partnerships with European institutions, benefiting both students and staff.
