Objectives

In the KA131 Erasmus+ project, the Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI) aimed to significantly enhance the internationalization of its higher education environment by facilitating student and staff mobilities. Our core objectives in implementing this project were threefold: Enhancing International Competencies for Students: The mobility program sought to provide AUI students with valuable international experiences that would deepen their understanding of global agricultural practices, land restoration, and environmental sustainability. By participating in mobility exchanges with partner universities across Europe, students gained first-hand experience in diverse University settings, learned from different academic perspectives, and developed new skills. Strengthening Professional Development for Staff: Through staff mobility, we sought to foster the exchange of knowledge and best practices in teaching, research, and administration between AUI and our European counterparts, especially within our UNIgreen Alliance. By enabling our staff to engage in international academic environments, the project contributed to professional development, enriched the quality of teaching and research at AUI, and fostered new collaborations in research and development. This experience also aimed to enhance intercultural competencies among staff, equipping them with the skills necessary to work in increasingly diverse and international contexts. Building Strategic International Partnerships: A key goal of the project was to strengthen AUI’s network of international partnerships and collaborations with other European universities. By establishing and nurturing these relationships through student and staff mobilities, we aimed to increase the visibility of AUI in the European academic community and encourage the exchange of innovative teaching methods and ideas. These partnerships also contributed to improving the quality and relevance of our educational programs, aligning them with international standards and trends in higher education. Overall, the project was designed to position AUI as a forward-thinking, internationally engaged institution. It provided valuable opportunities for our students and staff to grow both personally and professionally, while contributing to the modernization and global integration of our academic offerings. Through these efforts, we sought to ensure that AUI remains a competitive and attractive institution for both local and international students and scholars.
