Objectives

Our aim was to give experience for a life time, which empowers young participants, motivates them to be curious and open-minded, to discover and appreciate their own strengths, priorities, while they learn about serious topics like sustainability and inclusion, as well as opportunity in Erasmus+ programme. We used diverse tools and methods of nonformal and informal methods. We were focusing at 3 issues, at sustainability, at inclusion and at E+ opportunities. Self-discovery and development of self-esteem were “positive side-effect” of the learning process, which were at some points concretely negotiated in other cases just instinctly boosted. To promote sustainability and to react on the inputs and needs of the youngsters with whom we work in our civil life and who participated in previous youth exchanges, we gave space to youngsters to share practicalities and easy to implement methods how we can slow down climate change and how we can act in a sustainable way. Youngsters know a lot about climate change, wildlife and natural phenomena and based on the experiences from the training sessions, they try to do their best especially in Latvia and Iceland on daily basis. But it was really good to set a structure among these activities, to give ideas for own initiatives and to lay emphasise on the importance and benefits of these activities. Our aim was to contribute to inclusion, by reducing youngsters’ usage of clichés and unjustified stereotypes and by discovering similarities. We used numerous non-formal methods, which Natura Hungarica Foundation and Vinda Youth Centre in Valmiera collected and shared in the form of a collection of good practices within their international strategic partnership projects, titled Bio-Trio and Dive In. These activities contained teamwork, drama and experimental learning methods, which mirrored how similar we are from diverse aspects, even though from the appearance, or residence, or religion point of view we are completely different. In line with our aim to share information about Erasmus+ programme, we had a training session in Hungary facilitated by the representatives of the local National Agency about the actual opportunities for youth. In France, we had trainings when we combined these E+ opportunities with own priorities and needs. In line with our fundamental aim, we, organisers did not share information in a formal way about the topics, but really involved youngsters and gave them space and opportunity to openly present and discover their feelings, their habits and attitude in a safe environment. We are real ambassadors of non-formal learning methods, so our aim was to motivate youngsters to look for such exercises and play these games instead of playing e.g. beer-pong during parties. We also wanted to show other educators, who follow us on our social media platforms, how efficient and joyful experimental learning methods are, so as to motivate them to use these on a daily basis.
