With the project Queer teen folkfest we want to provide LGBTQ teens in Iceland a platform and opportunity to meet young people in the same and similar situations as themselves in a save environment. Having the opportunity to share their views, feelings and reflections on life and existence is invaluable for this group. Surveys show us that LGBTQ teens struggle more with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts than other adolescents. It´s a lot to be a teenager and even more complicated to be a queer teenager. The nature of the teenager is to compare themselves to their peers which often makes things very complicated for the queer young people who live in smaller municipalities in rural areas "the only gay in the village" Education is often lacking both for teens and not least their parents and often difficult to get adequate assistance. We want to ensure the participation of LGBTQ teens from all over Iceland. To give them opportunity to take part in this wonderful event that will be organized be their peers with their voice and wishes in mind.
