Objectives

By implementing the DIGINT project, the partnership aimed to strengthen the internationalisation of VET systems by fully leveraging the opportunities offered by digital transformation. The project addressed internationalisation as a systemic process, acting simultaneously on three interconnected levels: VET teachers and trainers, VET provider organisations, and regional VET ecosystems. Through this multi-level approach, DIGINT sought to enhance the attractiveness of VET and to reinforce its capacity to support the internationalisation of local and regional economies. In particular, DIGINT responded to the need to equip VET teachers, trainers and provider organisations with practical tools, competences and strategic frameworks to better understand, plan and manage internationalisation processes. Key outputs included the development of shared indicators and diagnostic tools to assess the level of internationalisation of VET organisations and staff, as well as the joint definition of a competence framework addressing learners, teachers, managers and policy actors involved in VET internationalisation. Finally, the Blueprint outlines a framework to render internationalization processes transferable and sustainable.

Background

The DIGITAL INTERNATIONAL TRAINERS (DIGINT) project was designed to address pressing and evolving needs within the European VET system, driven by digital transformation and increasing internationalisation of labour markets. European employment trends show a growing demand for medium- and high-level skills, highlighting the crucial role of VET providers, especially teachers and trainers, in preparing learners for these changes. The project responded to persistent challenges, including fragmentation of VET teacher training across Europe, difficulties in recruiting and retaining qualified staff, limited career development opportunities, and misalignment between teaching competences, digital innovation and international training skills, which weaken VET providers’ capacity to adapt to rapid economic and technological change. In line with the Osnabrück Declaration, DIGINT aimed to strengthen the digital, pedagogical and international competences of VET staff and support providers in developing coherent internationalisation strategies aligned with local economic specialisations, enhancing the attractiveness, quality and responsiveness of VET systems for learners, enterprises and territories
