Objectives

The main objective of the GLOBE project was to make Lighthouse specialise in adult education through confrontation with teaching methods other than those the association used to use in its lessons. GLOBE allowed the occurrence of situations necessary for this type of comparison, giving the participants the opportunity to strengthen their skills in approaching adult learners by drawing inspiration and learning from realities different from their own and from the methods usually used in Italy. These two objectives were fully achieved and allowed the association to open up internationally, enabling participants to enrich themselves both personally and professionally through an experience at the European level. What the members of the association learnt through direct participation in the international mobilities was shared with the rest of the team that remained at the headquarters, which allowed the newly acquired skills to be passed on to the entire association and to remain, despite the end of the project, ingrained in the methodology used by Lighthouse on a daily basis.

Background

The GLOBE Project arose from Lighthouse Languages' desire to improve internationally in the field of adult education. With its staff made up of volunteers, the association has specialised, through comparison with two other European countries, in the context involving adults over 60, specialising in particular on two of the main problems seen related to the over-60 population in the age of digital natives and internationalisation: the use of new technologies and communication through a foreign language - in this case English. Lighthouse, being well rooted in the area in which it operates on a daily basis, having a staff trained and competent in the field of language teaching and knowing its territory also from a social point of view, has decided to specify and confront itself not only on a local level but also on a European level thanks to the GLOBE project, qualifying, expanding and improving its educational offer thanks to the international comparison during the activities carried out in Finland and Cyprus.
