Objectives

The first objective is the internationalisation of students and of our educational community. This means to achieve the improvement of the social and civic competences that promote the European awareness of pupils and of the whole community. This objective can be achieved through activities in groups. Cultural exchange, respect for the environment and for diversity will offer the opportunity to experience linguistic and cultural immersion and to promote active citizenship in a European dimension. The second objective is the improvement of pupils' key competences. This is possible thanks to the immersion in an international panorama, the openness to new cultural encounters, the development of self-determination and critical conscience and the opportunity to be part of a network of intercultural collaborations. The third objective is the training of teaching staff and the exchange of good practices between teachers. The training of teaching staff is possible by ensuring the promotion of teaching and learning quality, promoting the use of new technologies and the application of innovative teaching methodologies, promoting linguistic diversity and facilitating the sharing of best practices in teaching and learning processes.

Background

Our school operates in a territory with a tourist and cultural vocation, Giardini Naxos (ME) which belongs to the geographical area where one of the main Italian tourist cities, Taormina, falls. Our area has a significant environmental and cultural heritage and archaeological sites. The most important challenge of our institute is certainly the internationalization of the students and the acquisition of an awareness of active citizenship, through autonomy, responsibility, respect for oneself and for others, democratic participation, collaboration, tolerance and solidarity, legal education and civil coexistence, European citizenship, the sharing of human rights and common values. The other value of our educational community is to act for environmental, economic and social sustainability, through environment education and the conscious management of resources. The challenge of our school is to look to the future, making each student the protagonist of his own future. The needs and challenges of our Institute are converted into goals that can only be reached thanks to a network of local, national and international collaborations.
