1) Reducing the phenomenon of early school leaving: the pupils, especially the most economically and culturally disadvantaged ones, by participating in the mobility programme, have benefited from all the opportunities offered by the project, improving their learning process, their self-esteem and motivation. They developed the European cultural dimension with a view to inclusion and democratic participation, learning good practices implemented to achieve success at school. 2) Getting to know Europe, the European institutions, the possibility of democratic participation and active citizenship, with the aim of improving the awareness of being European citizens, adapting teaching skills to a changing society, opening the school to an international dimension. 3) Using new teaching methodologies and digitalisation, giving pupils the opportunity to develop an immersive teaching approach aimed at building language and communication skills in foreign languages and appropriate IT skills. 4) Improving attitudes towards the environment, considered as the 'common home' of which we are guardians
Marco Polo Technical Institute for Tourism in Palermo educates its students to join, with all the required skills, a growing sector, tourism, which allows young people to find suitable job opportunities in public and private companies. The school is located in Palermo, in the industrial area. In the current year we have more than 1,150 students enrolled and 120 teachers. Our courses, which allow access to all different universities, are structured over five years and include many subjects, both general subjects (Italian Language and Literature, History, History of Art, Geography, Mathematics, Physics,) and specific subjects such as Accounting, Travel and Tourism, Information and Communication Techchnology; furthermore, Foreign Languages (English, French, German and Spanish) are the most important subjects in our courses, and are learnt in a modern way, using ICT and CLIL methodologies. We also offer an 'Esabac' and a 'Cambridge' course. Our students belong to families that often experience socio-economic hardship with little cultural stimulus. In many cases, their incomes are very low; the presence of students from foreign countries is significant.
