Objectives

The project has two different objectives: the first aimed at increasing the number of teachers trained in CLIL, and the second aimed at developing and/or strengthening the language skills of staff and teachers of language and non-language subjects, improving communication in English in the classroom and in formal and informal international contexts. The objectives address the need to increase the number of teachers with English language skills, to strengthen the international character of the school's educational offerings, (including by increasing the number and varying the types of subjects taught according to the IGSCE methodology) to increase the number of teachers involved in international projects (Erasmus / language courses / language workshops and seminars on environmental issues) and in CLIL teaching. Spreading and increasing the application of this methodology responds not only to current legislation but also to the need to foster a more dynamic and innovative learning environment to counter school dropout.

Background

Based on the priorities of the PTOF (Three-Year Educational Offer Plan) and the profile of our students and teachers, since 1997 we have participated in several European projects and since 2016 in Erasmus plus projects, which have involved not only a large number of students and school staff but also local citizens, through the organization of dissemination events at school and in the city. The positive impact of previous project activities on students and local realities in general, both educationally and relationally, has prompted us to increase the number of projects; this requires specific language training for the growing number of teachers, involved in the projects. Professional language training was also necessitated by the increase in enrollment in the Cambridge International course, which involves teaching curricular subjects in English. In the context analyzed, it was also important to acquire skills in CLIL methodology to implement the Europeanization of the school curriculum and to field new strategies to prevent and counteract school dropout, and, in general, educational failure through new teaching approaches.
