The Erasmus+/eTwinning project proposed to students since the first two school years aims to achieve four objectives: 1) Increase multilingual competence through the mobilities to provide better employment opportunities. 2) Reduce school drop-out rates and promote inclusion: the school is committed to training the staff to develop active teaching methodologies aimed at reducing school drop-out rates and motivating students to learn. With the Erasmus+/eTwinning projects, we intended to activate learning, collaboration, and a sense of belonging to the European community in non-formal contexts, increasing awareness of diversity and the level of inclusion for students with Special Educational Needs (BES). 3) Educate students as individuals, active and aware citizens, and in respect of the environment. With the projects we wanted to develop skills such as initiative, collaboration, and continuous learning, providing tools to tackle the complex socio-environmental reality in which young people grow up and encouraging them to reflect constructively on the necessary actions to preserve the environment. 4) Improve digital competence through the development of eTwinning projects.
The Leon Battista Alberti Institute is organized in two areas of study: Scientific High School/Applied Sciences and Economic Technical Institute. The educational offer is linked to the needs of the territory: a thermal area where tourism has developed commerce, banking, craftsmanship, and industry. Students have different economic, social, and cultural backgrounds; they are aged 13 to 19, and most attend the Economic where at least two foreign languages are studied. Many students have disabilities and special educational needs (BES). With this project, we aimed to develop their ability to interact in intercultural and multilingual environments, improve communication in foreign languages to help them approach society with confidence, and reduce school dropout rates, especially in the initial two years, through the implementation of active teaching methods. Therefore, the theater workshops and podcast projects proposed in the eTwinning projects, student mobilities, and the job shadowings by teachers aim to motivate students to explore, compare, and study while respecting the environment and the principles of the European community, and to enhance their digital competence.
