Objectives

Due to the complex background of the pupils attending our school, we are committed to even the barriers created by linguistic and cultural differences, while fostering a sense of European belonging among both the students and the teaching staff. By implementing the project it was possible to meet the identified needs and to provide opportunities for students (including those with fewer opportunities) to experience different teaching approaches, to observe a different cultural context, within which they can find the common European values of citizenship and solidarity. More specifically the objectives to be implemented were those envisaged by the project: - Development of active and democratic citizenship skills through the enhancement of the school as an active entity in the community - Participative and innovative teaching methodologies for citizenship education - Enhancement of language skills for enhancing the sense of belonging to the European community - Enhancement of language skills for the teaching staff for a coherent development of an international educational context

Background

The Comprehensive Institute “Perugia 14” includes 4 nursery schools, 4 primary schools and 1 secondary school located in the north-western suburban area of the city of Perugia, with its headquarter in the district of Ponte Felcino, an area characterised by some fragilities. In fact, the pupils attending the various branches of our school have a very complex socio-cultural background, with an high percentage of pupils having foreign/non-EU citizenship and/or being second-generation and also a considerable number of students with SLDs sand SENs. Due to these circumstances, the School decided to invest in opportunities for the development of competences of active and democratic citizenship, through the enhancement of values such as intercultural communication. peace, respect for differences and dialogue between cultures, as well as good behaviours like taking responsibility, solidarity, care for common goods and awareness of rights and duties. The school is already involved in a number of European projects both at local level (Reti di scuole), national (POn and PNSD) and international (Erasmus+ and eTwinning quality label).
