Objectives

Our joining the Erasmus+ Programme is in line with our University's objectives for its strategic development over these three years, especially in terms of of the following goals which span all four macro-areas of activity (teaching, research, outreach and services management): for the University of Aosta Valley to develop prestige and hence increase its visibility on both national and international stages, as well as to consolidate its position within the university system, at both national and international levels'; to further the robustness of French as a vehicular language so as to be a hallmark of this university, given both the cultural and geographic distinctiveness of the Aosta Valley Region. With respect to the most recent documents and planning relating to the period concerned in this exercise, the University Council has foreseen multiple courses of action and goals meant to expand the employ of multiple languages within its operation, as well as international contacts. Among these may be cited: the development of course curricula with a significantly international purview, entailing multiple languages yet with special emphasis towards francophone and anglophone milieux, so that subjects can be offered in languages other than Italian through the contributions of its tenured faculty or of visiting faculty from abroad, so as to match the need of incoming Erasmus students for their specific plan of studies and hence enhance the attractiveness of the University to such candidates; to strengthen its internship programmes, especially those performed abroad; to add to the interuniversity agreements with foreign partners. The University has always taken a position as a strong supporter of international education, evidence for which lies in having set up double-degree programmes with three French and one Spanish university, as well as cooperative agreements reached with universities outside the European Union for the purpose of student exchange. The international standing of the University can be seen from its involvement in a number of international networks, among other things aimed at the promotion of development cooperation through knoledge and scientific exchange, such as the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Réseau international des Chaires Senghor. Furthermore, those indices produced by the Italian entity 'Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del Sistema Universitario e della Ricerca' show the University to have achieved its excellence in terms of teaching with an international purview thanks to the above cited schemes for international exchange. The University intends to further solidify these achievements through its participation in the Erasmus+ Programme, in that it will especially help students strengthen their command of languages, develop sensitivity through cultural contact, and widen both their experience and career possibilities. With regard to career possibilities brought about through such study or internships abroad, one may note that some students pursue careers outside Italy, whether in the country in which their exchange was conducted or in another European country. This may well be due to their having acquired finer feeling for, as well as greater awareness of, the scope and purpose of European citizenship, so as to allow them to partake in a "shared language" and thus fuel a heightened tendency to work abroad. The Erasmus+ Programme further allows even students who do not directly engage in its exchanges to benefit from a multicultural environment on campus, as the result of multicultural interaction with both students and faculty from other universities.
