The University of Messina has attributed to internationalization a fundamental and transversal connotation to the functions of training, research and third mission, which allows it to enhance the quality, attractiveness and competitiveness of the University and to project the territory into a dimension of growing global openness. This choice, through the implementation of the Erasmus+ Programme, allows the University to align itself with the priorities defined by the EU in terms of higher education, create a wide, cultural and cosmopolitan academic environment that represents the driving force of the economic growth and socio-cultural development of the territory , allowing the University to contribute to the creation of the European Higher Education (EEA) and Research Areas (ERA). In this framework, the objectives of Project 2022 were focused on strengthening the participation of academic staff in the programme, promoting multilingualism, inclusiveness and the development of digital skills. The measures adopted for implementation included the strengthening of initiatives to spread out the dissemination of the results and opportunities offered by the Programme, as well as the pursuit of the Road Map for achieving the digitalisation objectives (EWP). The results obtained were in line with expectations, taking into account some critical issues encountered and the administrative burden that impacts the activities of the offices involved. The future goal is to continue with the decentralization of the management of the Programme, involving the Departments more in order to encourage wider participation in mobility activities and complete the road map for the full digitalisation of the programme.
