The project was designed to respond to the challenges older people face in the digital age. The main objective was to promote digital inclusion among older people, helping them develop fundamental technological skills to fully participate in contemporary society. Furthermore, we wanted to create an opportunity for cultural exchange and intergenerational interaction through music. The project took on particular importance in combating social isolation, especially after the isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, by establishing a community where participants could share musical preferences and cultural knowledge. We encouraged continuous learning using music as a vehicle, helping seniors stay mentally active and engaged. Furthermore, the project contributed to the emotional and mental well-being of participants by providing them with access to digital tools for everyday life and the socializing experience of music. A key aspect of our project was the creation of a sustainable model, so that the benefits of digital inclusion and social interaction could last beyond the duration of the project.
We applied for this project, "Let's Talk With a Song," to address the challenges of isolation and marginalization of adults and older adults through digital-based learning initiatives music. The needs addressed were mainly related to the growing digital transition, which brought many elderly people feel excluded from the digital world and, consequently, socially and culturally marginalized. There pandemic has accentuated this need as digital technologies have become indispensable for distance learning, work and social interaction. As a result, it has become even more urgent bridging the digital divide among older adults. Our project aimed to provide digital skills using the music as a language, promoting intergenerational dialogue, cultural exchange and resilience in the face to various social challenges. The partnership with our partner, Inercia Digital, was crucial as they brought specific skills in the field of digital skills and e-learning. The project was in line with our shared vision of promoting inclusion and continuous learning through music and digital skills.
