Objectives

The project aimed at fostering the employability of adults with physical disabilities in the IT sector through the following objectives: • strengthening the competencies of adults with physical disabilities taking part in project activities, to reduce the high unemployment. • empowering adult educators who work with the TG and providing them with concrete educational tools targeted at adults with physical disabilities.

Background

The Consortium applied for the "EMployability BEyond Disability through IT skills" (EMBED) project to enhance the employability of adults with physical disabilities in the IT sector. Persons with disabilities face significant barriers to healthcare, education, employment, and political participation, with a higher risk of poverty or social exclusion (28.4%) compared to those without disabilities (18.4%), according to EUROBAROMETER 493 (2019). The project also addressed the exclusion of adults with physical disabilities from education, as highlighted by Eurostat (2019). The COVID-19 pandemic further worsened these inequalities. EMBED aimed to empower adults with physical disabilities, a socially excluded and discriminated group, by unlocking their potential to improve their labor market position, fostering economic autonomy and social inclusion. The project also sought to increase employment rates and entrepreneurship opportunities for persons with disabilities.
