Objectives

The objectives of the ECO-NOMY project focused on promoting sustainability, innovation, and economic awareness among adults by introducing the Doughnut Economy model. Specifically, the project aimed to: - Increase awareness and understanding of the Doughnut Economy, integrating environmental sustainability, social justice, and economic development, and focusing on creating a balance between human needs and planetary boundaries. - Develop competencies for sustainable entrepreneurship by incorporating the Doughnut Economy theory into non-formal education to enhance adult learners' abilities to apply sustainability practices in entrepreneurship. - Foster digital literacy and improve adult learners' skills in using technology effectively, particularly in relation to sustainability and economic actions. - Encourage collaboration and best practices exchange to facilitate the sharing of methodologies, especially regarding climate action and sustainable economic models. These objectives were pursued through two training courses, workshops, and the creation of practical resources like an interactive guide and audiobook.

Background

We applied for the ECO-NOMY project to address the growing need for sustainable economic models that balance environmental, social, and economic concerns. The central concept we aimed to promote was the Doughnut Economy, which integrates sustainable entrepreneurship, digitalization, and climate action into adult education. We recognized a gap in adult learners' understanding of how these areas intersect and affect society, especially in the context of climate change. Our project specifically focused on increasing the capacity of adult educators and youth workers to apply these sustainable principles in their communities. Given the pressing environmental challenges faced by regions like Veneto, Italy, and Cantabria, Spain, where our partner organizations operate, we believed it was crucial to enhance awareness and provide practical tools to address these challenges. Through non-formal education methods, we aimed to equip adult learners with the skills needed to promote social inclusion, foster sustainable entrepreneurship, and improve economic opportunities in regions facing ecological and social challenges.
