Democracy and inclusive democratic participationAwareness about the European Union

Objectives

In recent years, European democracy has been constantly under threat from multiple factors, remaining within the partnership involved here: gagged or imprisoned journalists and strong authoritarianism linked to religion, nostalgia for communist dictatorships, "illiberal" democracies, "one way thinking" and transformism, but also strong disinterest in elections, young people's estrangement from social and political life and often confusion about what democracy means and its basic characteristics. The future is represented by young people and they represent the foundation on which European democracy will be based. If the foundations are not solid, there is a risk of a collapse of the system and of values. This youth exchange was created with the aim of increasing the democratic dimension of the participants and better understanding its values and strengths. Other objectives related to the topic were to increase the democratic and social participation of young people by encouraging them to engage in greater activism, understand the risks of populism (authoritarianism, totalitarianism) and bring them closer to the European Union and its values and principles. Like all Erasmus+ projects, among the other objectives pursued, there was that of increasing the participants intercultural dimension, becoming more familiar with youth mobility, with the non-formal methodology and increasing certain "soft skills".
