Objectives

Telling stories is one of the most powerful means that we can use to influence, teach, and inspire people. What makes storytelling so effective for learning is the fact that storytelling forges connections among people, and between people and ideas. Stories convey the culture, history, and values that unite people. When it comes to our countries, our communities, and our families, we understand intuitively that the stories we hold in common are an important part of the ties that bind us. Good stories do more than create a sense of connection. They build familiarity and trust and allow the listener to enter the story where they are, making them more open to learning. Good stories can contain multiple meanings so they’re surprisingly economical in conveying complex ideas in graspable ways. The Deaf Youth Filmmaking Camp aims to empower young D/deaf with the ability to tell stories on film by providing hands-on access to state-of-the-art equipment and the guidance of experienced deaf filmmakers in the beautiful setting of youth exchange while providing a fun-filled summer experience that can transport them beyond their everyday lives. Often D/deaf people (in scientific literature, the term deaf with a capital "D" refers to those deaf people who feel part of a linguistic and cultural community, while the term with a lower case "d" refers to those with hearing impairment but who do not feel part of the deaf community) didn’t have access or have partial access to the informal and non-formal program organise and promote by the European Commission. This is because: - They are not aware of such programs and opportunities such as youth exchange etc. - Some of those activities aren’t accessible or just partially accessible for the target that the D/deaf represents. So, the main aim of this youth exchange was linked to the " EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 (tackle the diverse challenges that persons with disabilities face) and the Erasmus+ priorities (Inclusion and Diversity) by including young D/deaf people into some EU program activity and let them produce a story of inclusion on Erasmus+ program that we will share as one of the results of the project ( the story that the participants will record and edit). The specific objectives of this YE were: • Bring 45 D/deaf young, 9 group leaders, 18 accompanying people from 9 different EU countries (Italy, Spain, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Serbia) to have an inclusive youth exchange experience. • Learn visual storytelling and filming. • Learn everything required such as logo creation, title and plot development, make-up, costume design, acting, photography, filmmaking, and editing. • Learn the language of filmmaking. • Active participation in society. • Improvement of the awareness of the European project and the values of the EU. • Enhancing intercultural awareness among D/deaf from different EU countries. • Improvement of foreign language skills as the training will be conducted simultaneously in International Sign and spoken English.
