Objectives

With the alarming youth unemployment rate across the European Union, we, the European Commission, made youth employment a priority. The current job market in Europe tended to have structural problems with unemployment, meaning that there were many open positions but young people lacked the skills and knowledge needed for these jobs. This was supported by statistics of the youth unemployment rate in the EU, which was over 15% (as of January 2021, https://www.statista.com/statistics/266228/youthunemployment-rate-in-eu-countries/). Teenagers and those in their twenties who were fresh out of education did not find jobs right away, especially if the country's economy was experiencing difficulties. The problems had their roots more deeply, as the fact that young people did not possess all the competences to enter the labor market. Many times, the limited level of public speaking competences pulled them back. Young people were not taught to speak in public and had limited knowledge on how to present themselves in a job interview and with a well-done CV. This led to the fact that most young people nowadays could not successfully pass an interview. The so-called "lost generation" was represented by many young citizens struggling to develop necessary skills and experience – this resulted from the low level of key competences like learning to learn and sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, which were replaced with increased theoretical preparation to the detriment of the hands-on approach education needed both by young people and the labor market. Another cause of the high rate of youth unemployment was a limited level of knowledge regarding personal branding (pitch), which led to limited capabilities of marketing and promoting ourselves and low experienced young people. Objectives of the project that we planned to achieve by the end of the project were: 1. Increase key competences regarding the accession to the labor market, of the 30 participants from PL, ES, FR, TR, and IT. 2. Develop Entrepreneurship competence of the 30 young participants from the 5 countries mentioned above. 3. Increase the capacities of the partner organizations to plan, organize, and implement a KA1 youth exchange tailored to youths with regard to the new realities of the labor market.
