Objectives

By implementing the "Holistic Mentoring" project, our primary aim was to address the pressing challenges related to mental health and well-being in Europe, as highlighted in the "Health at a Glance: Europe 2018" report. This report emphasized that approximately 84 million individuals within the EU were affected by mental health problems. Furthermore, it pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic crisis had placed an increased burden on the mental well-being of citizens, resulting in higher rates of stress, anxiety, and depression. Young people and those in lower income groups were particularly considered at high risk. Our project's objectives were as follows: 1. Increasing Understanding: Our first objective was to enhance the level of understanding among 25 youth workers regarding the unique needs and challenges faced by youth with fewer opportunities, especially those related to mental health. 2. Professional Competency Development: The second objective aimed to equip 25 youth workers with the necessary professional competencies to effectively utilize mentoring methodologies when working with young people facing fewer opportunities. 3. Motivation Enhancement: Our third objective was focused on increasing the personal and professional motivation of 25 youth workers, inspiring them to engage in mentoring contexts with young people facing fewer opportunities. 4. Organizational Capacity Building: The fourth objective aimed to strengthen the organizational capacity of 8 youth organizations, particularly in aspects related to mental health, enabling them to work more effectively with youth facing fewer opportunities. The central element through which we addressed these objectives was mentoring—a comprehensive guidance system. In mentoring, professional mentors provided attentive and objective guidance to young people or groups, fostering personal and professional growth. Mentors shared knowledge, posed thought-provoking questions, actively listened, tracked progress, presented challenges, identified development needs, and highlighted opportunities. Importantly, mentoring was delivered both offline and online, ensuring flexibility and accessibility. Through the "Holistic Mentoring" project, we effectively responded to a range of critical needs: - We addressed strategic development needs by enhancing organizational capacity, securing resources, expanding European-level work capacity, improving community image and recognition, nurturing local partnerships, and refining efficient work systems and procedures. - In response to the need for constant adaptation to changing environmental conditions, we promoted innovative practices, streamlined youth-focused activities, shared best practices with other organizations, and embraced online engagement with young people. - We invested in the professional and personal development of our youth workers by offering continuous professional training, motivation, and support, ultimately enhancing their professional satisfaction and contributing to staff retention and growth within our organizations. - Our focus on service quality improvement aimed to raise the quality and quantity of services offered, ensuring a better cost-benefit ratio for our activities. - Finally, we directed our efforts toward the needs of our beneficiaries, particularly young people. We increased the number of young beneficiaries, motivated their active participation in partner activities, enhanced the appeal of our partners among young people, and significantly contributed to the development of young people's mental health and participation. Through the successful implementation of the "Holistic Mentoring" project, we made significant strides in addressing these objectives and needs, ultimately contributing to the well-being and opportunities of young people, especially those facing challenges related to mental health, across Europe.
