The project was implemented by InCo and partner 2Hands. InCo, specialized in youth mobility and non-formal learning, led the 2Hands network, consisting entirely of young people, in a process of self-determination and consolidation. This operation was made possible thanks to the implementation of an environmental project connecting the entire network, composed of 10 local groups spread across Southern and Central Italy. The core idea of the project was the organization of 5 National Cleanup on the Adriatic coast, implemented mainly by young people. Around the idea of the clean up a huge number of events, awareness campaign and communication strategy was organized. The project ended up with the redaction of policy paper and reccomadation for policy makers, entirely created by young participants. The objectives of the project, which were achieved: - The 2Hands network, comprising hundreds of young people from all over Italy, was successfully integrated into the program. - A network of associations and activities on the Adriatic was established. Despite having only 4 2Hands groups present on the Adriatic and comprised of 450 volunteers, the project successfully created a united and functional network of at least 50 environmental protection associations along the coast. These associations were instrumental in generating environmental value and addressing issues such as pollution and environmental degradation. They facilitated the collection of reports on environmental issues, enabling actions for cleanup and monitoring of the area. The data collected from various sources were consolidated into a comprehensive report developed by 2Hands, providing a clear image of the situation in the Adriatic and proposing effective solutions. - The project enabled young people to take on responsibilities within their communities. - The waste problem was addressed from a scientific perspective through monitoring and data collection initiatives. - From the perspective of youth work practice, the project presented a unique opportunity to communicate with a vast audience of young people and promote youth participation in democratic life. Utilizing the peer-to-peer approach, the project effectively engaged young people in environmental issues, demonstrating a method that can be replicated in other sectors. Overall, the project not only contributed to environmental conservation efforts but also served as a model for youth empowerment and participation in community initiatives.
