Objectives

The "PADEL: Participatory Democracy Lab" project aimed to create, at a local level, a tool for comparison and structured dialogue with young people, capable of starting a participatory planning with different actors of civil society (citizens, policy-makers, representatives of the private sector, experts in youth policy programs), with the aim of orienting the work on youth policies, stimulating the participation of young people in decision-making processes at a local level. The objective was successfully achieved thanks to the implementation of an innovative element, namely, the adaptation of the EASW® (European Awareness Scenario Workshop) methodology to the co-design of youth policies, on a local scale. This tool proved to be extremely functional to the objectives that were intended to be achieved, effectively allowing participants to take part in the activities with a proactive spirit, stimulating their ability to identify and plan concrete solutions to existing problems. PADEL has achieved the following objectives: - consolidated new strategies and devices to facilitate the participation of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, in public life, also using IT platforms, as suggested by the European Youth Strategy; - structured dialogue processes as a space in which young people can meet with experts and representatives of civil society in order to identify problems, guide the work of youth policies and find appropriate solutions; - promoted many of the opportunities offered by public policies at European, national, regional and local level; - improved the skills and abilities of young socio-educational animators in identifying and promoting the potential of individuals, groups and communities also in reference to marginalization, social exclusion and hardship.
