With this project, we wanted to deepen our knowledge of computer technologies, ecological farming and solutions to sustainability problems, to get to know the possibilities of wider cooperation and inclusion of seniors and youth. Since our seniors are very interested in horticulture and gardening, we have made it possible for them to visit organic farms that use modern sustainable technological solutions. It was important to understand how different countries care about the inclusion of seniors in various social activities, their meaningful employment, so that we could apply these ideas locally. Therefore, during the project, we tried to visit different countries with different traditions: Poland, Spain, Italy, and invite experienced experts to conduct on-site training in our premises for the largest possible number of listeners who cannot go on longer trips due to health problems. This project perfectly complements our other local computer literacy projects, which we have been running periodically for the fourth year and which inspired the creation of a new Faculty of Technology, and in the future we have plans to establish a Faculty of Ecology.
Kaunas Third Age university is a non-formal adult education institution that does not receive state funding and has been operating for more than 25 years only thanks to volunteer lecturers and training organizers. Our listeners are active and adventurous retired seniors who attend various faculties, of which there are currently 14. Modern life is inseparable from the challenges of computer technology, ecological, globalization, and immigration, so it is very important for our listeners to participate in international activities while expanding their horizons. In addition, our listeners have limited financial opportunities and health problems, which limit the ability to travel independently. ERASMUS+ projects provide opportunities for organized travel, even for seniors with physical disabilities, to learn different learning methods, to get acquainted with the experience of educational institutions in other countries, to communicate with peers from other countries, to deepen their knowledge of the English language, to get to know the culture, customs, and history of the countries. For the managers and staff of the organization, this is a great opportunity to raise their qualifications, modernize and invigorate the learning process.
