Objectives

Three project objectives were set: - Create conditions for the implementation of sustainable development principles in school through formal and informal education, providing every member of the school community the opportunity to contribute to improving the quality of life. - Apply digital technologies more effectively to improve teaching, ensure safe and ethical communication, increase attractiveness and accessibility of educational content, and enhance teachers' digital competence. - Improve teachers' language (English) competence for more effective international collaboration, content creation, transmission, and teaching. In a broad sense the project is aimed to improve the quality of educational services, ensure the implementation of priorities set out in the gymnasium strategic plan. Progress is achieved by focusing more on sustainability, ensuring better educational conditions, creating safe and innovative learning environments, and expanding the application of digital teaching/learning resources and tools. Progress is realized by improving ability of teachers to organize education in an effective and attractive way that integrates sustainable development principles, strengthening their digital and linguistic competencies.

Background

The project is implemented in a four-year gymnasium that offers national and International Baccalaureate Diploma programs. Educational activities are carried out by 45 teachers and 5 employees of non-teaching staff, who implement the priority the gymnasium - the long-term pursuit of the quality of education focused on meeting the needs of the students and developing competencies. There are 439 students of the final (I-IV) grades of gymnasium, differing in the level of knowledge and skills. The number of students with special educational needs is increasing. On the other hand, there are a great number of active students who demonstrate high academic achievements, manage ICT well, but lack motivation and skills in applying digital tools for learning. Hence, they desire modern, engaging, and meaningful activities, identifying them as one of the most motivating factors determining the success. The needs of students determine that in the special attention is paid to the priorities of the project – improvement of digital skills, fostering responsibility for a sustainable development, enhancing the perception of international identity, mastering innovative and inclusive teaching/learning methods, and improving language competencies.
