Objectives

Experiential education in our gymnasium takes place in several directions: second-graders implement subject-oriented projects, while third-graders and fourth-graders carry out projects of service learning. However, not all students are actively involved in experiential activities, so we set the following goal: to prepare the model of experiential education in the gymnasium and ensure its sustainability. The following tasks helped to achieve this goal: 1. Implement purposeful activities relating to subject-oriented projects (more students will consciously choose the topics and will work on them efficiently). 2. Aim for quality in service learning projects, emphasizing their impact on student achievement and future planning (students will be encouraged to explore their surroundings and to be more sustainable). 3. Strengthen students' motivation and improve their academic achievements by organizing lessons using out-of-school environments (this will help to improve competences relating to the experiential learning experience). 4. Form students' teamwork skills needed for experiential activities and strengthen the ability to communicate and collaborate, so that he educational process would become more productive and motivating.

Background

Learning achievements in our gymnasium (VBE, PUPP results) are lower than the national average. Only up to 30% of students have reached at least basic level. Therefore, the gymnasium is looking for the ways to improve academic achievements. In the Strategic plan for 2022-2024 we set the goal “Education of a future-ready, independent young person who is a responsible and active global citizen ”, for which we have set the task “To organize an educational process focused on improving students’ achievements”. One of the success measures for the implementation of this task is “Integration of project based activities and experiential learning into educational activities”. However, not all of the students are efficiently and timely involved in experiential activities. Our gymnasium‘s SWOT analysis reveals "The use of unproductive methods to achieve higher achievements" as a threat, so teachers need new experiences, ideas on how to organize experiential education in lessons and outside the school, which would encourage students to discuss the issues and look for solutions to various kinds problems (environmental being one amongst many others). Taking everything into consideration, it is meaningful to participate in the ERASMUS project.
