The project "Career planning - the key to a successful future" brought the whole team together to address the issues of successful careers and helped students to prepare for a changing world and a more successful career path, as well as to equip them with the knowledge to start a successful career with the skills they have. 1. This project has ensured that the theoretical knowledge of careers that pupils receive in the Gymnasium is closely linked to practice, and that career guidance becomes an integral part of a pupil's education. 2. We have identified and applied methods to make career education an attractive field. 3. We have made sure that the school has a specialist to coordinate coherent career education. 4. We have learnt how to increase the participation of students in career activities in a busy environment. 5. We have ensured that pupils do not postpone their career planning, but rather work with professionals to develop their self-knowledge at school.
Elektrėnai Versmės Gymnasium is a creative, motivating 4-year school with primary and secondary education programmes. The gymnasium has students in grades 1-4 (14-19 years old). The school is a modern educational institution aiming to educate a mature, conscious, independent student whose worldview is based on common human values. In a survey carried out in Elektrėnai Municipality, the career development area of the school was rated moderate. This is what prompted a closer look into this area. The pupils at the gymnasium should have a clear vision of their future career path, a better understanding of their competences and skills, and should have a career as a priority already at school, and should be able to choose a direction for their future professional activity already during the education process. It is important to find attractive ways of helping pupils to develop their abilities, aptitudes and talents. A more rapid change is also needed in the careers of pupils with special needs, as they have not yet found fulfilment in their professional activities. The project participants, together with the Gymnasium and the community of Elektrėnai, have completed all the planned events of the project.
