By implementing this project, we wanted to create a safer and more equitable environment for women in public spaces. We aimed not only to raise awareness of the problem of gender-based violence, but also to provide women with the knowledge and tools to recognize violence, protect themselves from it, and seek help. We also sought to educate the public, encouraging them to understand the causes and consequences of gender-based violence. Our goals were to raise awareness by informing and educating the public about the prevalence of gender-based violence, its forms and impact on women. We wanted to provide prevention by equipping women and girls with the knowledge and skills to recognize the danger of violence and how to act to avoid violence or reduce its risk. We aimed to provide information about existing assistance and support measures that women can turn to if they experience violence. Finally, we wanted to encourage dialogue and cooperation among various groups in society to create a safer environment for women. We hoped that this project would contribute to the reduction of gender-based violence and ensure the safety of women in public spaces.
We applied for this project because of the urgent need to address gender-based violence, a pervasive and global problem that significantly impacts women's lives and well-being. As the World Health Organization (WHO) reports, approximately 30% of women globally have experienced intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a third party. This statistic underscores the scale of the issue and its devastating consequences. Our project aimed to contribute to the empowerment of women, defined as the process of women becoming aware of their individual and collective power, strengthening their capacities, confidence, and autonomy to take control of their lives. We believe that empowerment is a crucial instrument for change, helping to overcome inequality and advance both women's rights and societal progress as a whole. Projects focused on women's safety in public spaces are particularly important because public spaces should be accessible and safe for everyone. However, women often face disproportionate risks of harassment, violence, and intimidation in these spaces, limiting their freedom of movement and participation in public life. This not only restricts women's individual potential but also perpetuates gender inequality.
