Objectives

To understand what we wanted to achieve by implementing this project it is important to understand the background of its idea. Project idea had its start in 2019 at the previously implemented youth exchanges with the same Turkey organization “I KNOW”. Then, we saw how strongly our decisions, values and other aspects of our lives are influenced by gender roles of our families, culture and other backgrounds. We used to discuss the gender specific, LGBTQ+ and other problems we see in our environments in between the activities, during breaks or meal times. Discussions would get so out of hand that even during the activities we would discover ourselves naturally involved in the same gender norm specific topics again and again. Then we understood how broad the topic is and that it needs to be addressed on a deeper level. At that point we knew that the most important thing we needed to do is to gather various people, who are interested in this topic or want to get familiar with it and create a safe space for discussions, vulnerability of our own personal experiences and learning space. Since we understood that the topic could get really sensitive, one of the biggest achievements we looked for are personal: to learn from each other's various experiences, examine and address how gender roles affected our lives and become more conscious of our environment and the topics of sexuality, patriarchy, masculinity and femininity, social media within them and problems in our surroundings in many levels. During Gender Roles in Modern Society project writing, we specified some main achievements and objectives together with our partners that we would put all the efforts to achieve and that are listed below. Our project objectives: -To understand what is gender equality, feminism, masculinity, and patriarchy and what are the influences of them. -To analyze the influence of social media on perceptions of gender roles in our communities. To learn how to start solving gender-related challenges on local and/or regional levels and create actions that we as young people can make in our communities to tackle gender-related challenges. -Review and reflect on our own beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors related to gender. -Educate critical thinking solving gender stereotyping in our international group of YE. Project achievements we’ve looked for: -That participants will become more active as citizens and will raise awareness about gender inequality. -Those participants will gain more knowledge about gender roles. -That idea of gender equality will spread in the local region. national levels in all project partner countries and also in European or international levels. -That this project will involve more local people in all partner countries and so help more people to learn about gender roles. - That this project will engage people to develop 8 main competences. -Those participants will learn how to think critically and be less affected by marketing. -Those participants will learn more about how a problem about gender inequality looks like in different countries. - Those participants will learn more about gender stereotypes. -The destruction of the classical stereotypes about gender roles.
