Objectives

The goal of the project was to acquire new knowledge and gain experience in non-formal education about forests as a habitat and a unique value by participating in a job shadowing project. The main objective was directly related to the core area of the organization's work and the desire to supplement theoretical knowledge with practical understanding of the forestry practices in the Northern region. Through the project, the participants gained experience in working with diverse age groups in forest education to better emphasize the importance of sustainability in the forestry sector. They had the opportunity to compare the understanding of forest management, resource utilization, and adherence to nature conservation requirements among forest owners, educators, and the general public in Latvia, Finland, and Norway. Job shadowing was a significant project objective as the process of acquiring new knowledge and skills took place directly in nature or within forestry companies. The participants had direct, unmediated contact with forestry professionals and custodians of cultural heritage, such as museum workers. Such on-site training in small groups facilitated effective and direct communication, as well as the exchange of experience.

Background

The organization provides non-formal education to society as a whole. The main focus of their work is forest education, offering courses and seminars for forest owners, collaboration partners, and other interested individuals. Another area of activity involves informal educational events for the general public, in collaboration with various municipal institutions of different regions, including Madliena parish, as well as private forestry and agricultural enterprises. Their work with the community is carried out through various local projects, supported by both Madliena parish and the Ogre municipality. Madliena Secondary School teachers and people from Ķeipene parish are actively involved in these projects. The diverse educational events include both learning projects and practical initiatives related to tree planting and environmental quality improvement. Another area of activity is associated with the creative workshop called "Alnīša namiņš," where people learn and engage in practical activities, creating various items using natural materials.
