Background

Rezekne Secondary School 2 was recently renovated and equipped with the latest technologies. After the schools’ optimization in the city, it has maintained the High School Status. The number of students is growing. During this school year, 70 new students entered the school and 18 new educators have started their work. School development priorities are excellence and innovation. In order to achieve the objectives set, highly qualified specialists are needed. Assessing the situation at school it was found, that: - many teachers lack knowledge of innovative learning methods and opportunities for new technologies in the learning process; - loss of teacher interest and enthusiasm; - in the last 5 years, the school was not involved in international projects and training; - educators have low level of English proficiency, making it difficult to introduce innovative ideas to school and engage in international projects. It was concluded that teachers need vocational training courses “innovative teaching methods.” It is also important to strengthen the European dimension of school, to implement mobility projects, to offer teachers the opportunity to develop their knowledge of English in training courses in the multicultural environment.
