The project aims to achieve the following objectives: 1.Responsible behaviour towards the environment - to learn to understand how what we eat affects our planet and humanity, which includes responsible consumption, biodiversity, seasonal and local food, waste reduction and use. For Students to become responsible consumers, be knowledgeable about the food impact they eat - health, environmental aspects. 2. Integrating environmental education and education for sustainable development into the curriculum, into various school and extra-curricular activities - during the shadowing, teachers learn how to qualitatively complement the curriculum and methodology by integrating environmental education and education for sustainable development topics. 3. Improving the quality of teaching and learning by using interdisciplinary teaching approaches and diversifying teaching methods - during the shadowing period, teachers observe the work of teachers from the host schools, apply the acquired knowledge and skills in their own practice.
Skujene Basic School has been participating in the UNESCO Associated Schools Project since 2015. Our school's chosen field of activity is "Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development". We've taken part in the World's Biggest Lesson campaign and learned about the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Teachers and pupils learned together about global challenges. We are active in ERASMUS+, eTwinning and NORDPLUS JUNIOR projects, as well as in the Eco-Schools programme. We studied water, its properties, water availability in different European countries, looked for ways to save water. The challenge was to learn to understand how what we eat affects our planet and humanity, what constitutes responsible consumption, biodiversity, use of seasonal and local foods, reduction and use of food waste. Through the project, teachers gained the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes needed to implement the principles of environmental sustainability, learning from colleagues, learning about success stories and challenges. The teachers use the knowledge and experience gained in their work with students, pass it on to their colleagues and implement practical improvements in the daily life of the school.
