Carbon Neutral Schools strived to make one step closer to achieving EU Green Deal's objective to be the first climate neutral continent. During the project digital training materials for education institutions on ways how to reduce Carbon Footprint in their everyday life were developed. It is important that public institutions act as forerunners in achieving ambitious goals and even more important is that schools are among them, as present pupils is future society that mainly will work for the 2050 objective.
The EU aims to become the first climate-neutral bloc by 2050. Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Belgium, and Croatia are mostly on track, though progress varies, as in Croatia’s 30% renewables share yet slow low-carbon strategy for 2030. More immediate action, like the EU's Fit for 55 package, is crucial to stay under the 1.5–2°C warming threshold. Carbon neutrality isn’t just for regions or towns but entire sectors. Schools can play a key role by teaching students to analyze climate data and understand how to address large-scale challenges, boosting overall resilience and economic growth.
